About the role:

The Sr. Supplier Quality Engineer will play a key part in leading performance improvement of suppliers and increasing the supplier’s capabilities to consistently meet Boston Scientific’s requirements. The Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for working with suppliers to ensure an acceptable level of quality of materials.  This includes working directly with suppliers as well as other functions within Boston Scientific, including; Purchasing, Research and Development, Manufacturing Engineering, other Quality functions, and Regulatory Affairs. The Global Direct Services team, with Boston Scientific, is looking for high energy, driven, passionate people, looking to not just change jobs, but start an amazing career!


Duties fall into five key areas:

  • Approved Vendor List management
  • Supplier assessment
  • Supplier corrective action management
  • Supplier change analysis management
  • Commodity team leadership/participation


    The Supplier Quality Engineer is also responsible for partnering with suppliers to continuously improve quality and efficiency. 


    What we’re looking for in you:

  • Provide supporting documentation for changes to the Approved Vendor List
  • Plan and conduct audits of suppliers to assess compliance with Boston Scientific requirements, including audit scheduling, investigation, and evaluation of audit observation and findings, reporting, follow-up, and confirmation of follow-up actions
  • Assess supplier capabilities through onsite visits, technical discussions and quality system audits
  • Communicate quality issues to suppliers and customers as needed and provide assistance in developing corrective actions
  • Review and approve supplier corrective action plans and verification of effectiveness documentation
  • Coordinate the evaluation of proposed changes at suppliers
  • Reviews, understands, and implements updates related to BSC Policy changes. Includes incorporation of this information into corporate and divisional programs through document reviews, protocol reviews, validation reviews, and training programs.
  • Participates with Corporate and regional Supplier Quality organization on policy/procedure/guideline development. Includes generation, review, and implementation of these documents.
  • Generates Supplier Performance Reports.
  • Tracks and trends supplier performance, taking remedial action as needed.
  • Provides guidance to Purchasing and Engineers in applying Supplier Quality system requirements.
  • Contributes to and participates in supplier performance reviews.
  • Provide guidance in applying supplier quality system requirements
  • Facilitate and lead Service Commodity team focused on Quality, Cost, and Capabilities globally


    Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Engineering or Technical field with 5-8 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in medical device or other regulated industry
  • Project management; ability to influence cross functional global teams spanning quality, operations, and sourcing
  • Process Improvement within supplier change, supplier corrective action and supplier assessment
  • Ability to rapidly learn and use new applications, ex. SAP, PLM
  • Experience with Supplier change analysis management
  • Strong command of MS Office – Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Visio
  • Self-Starter as a Sr. level engineer supporting the supplier engineering global team
  • Travel for role both domestic and international approximately from 10-30% of time


    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Leadership experience on a materials or service commodity team
  • Operational background
  • Lead auditor of quality systems experience (ISO 13485, or similar)
