Corporate Communications Senior Specialist, Italy

About the role:
As part of a dynamic and collaborative regional communications team, the Corporate Communications Senior Specialist will develop innovative and impactful corporate communications to further strengthen Boston Scientific’s reputation as a leading healthcare company in the target country.
The selected candidate will collaborate closely with internal partners in country leadership, marketing, market access and regional corporate communications colleagues to deliver real business results and elevate the profile of the company in the market.  
This role reports into the EMEA Corporate Communications Group Manager and is a hybrid role, based in our Milan hub.

 

In this role, you will be responsible to:

  • Develop, plan, and drive corporate communications strategies that support country business objectives as well as protect and strengthen the Boston Scientific brand, aligned with the regional comms strategy.
  • With a deep knowledge of Boston Scientific narrative, ensure consistency of brand and message across media, corporate social media and internal/leadership communications at country level.  
  • As core member of the country leadership team, develop a deep business acumen to understand business goals; advise when and how corporate communications can add value; counsel country leadership on their communications and engagement capabilities, including storytelling & delivery.
  • Develop annual country communications plan, measuring and reporting on its performance.
  • Use audience insights, source, develop and publish compelling country stories (eg. articles, press releases, videos, social posts) about Boston Scientific, our purpose, values, solutions and our people; attend internal, social and external editorial boards to champion country stories at regional level.
  • Provide in-country media execution support for regional campaigns; develop brand building local media activities (eg. Direct-to-Referrer/Direct-to-Patient), organising work of PR agencies & PR freelance as required; act as point person for country media enquiries and develop key media contacts.
  • Proactively monitor external environment to anticipate reputational risks; support proactive issue management, preparing messaging, collaterals and spokespeople as directed.
  • Maintain oversight of country internal communications ecosystem (eg. channels) to ensure its efficient, effective and aligned with regional standards.
  • Ensure consistent and appropriate declination and adoption of regional corporate initiatives in market (eg. strategic plan rollout, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, ESG), checking with corporate SMEs for messaging alignment, championing country stories and content for elevation to corporate channels.
  • Regularly evaluate impact of activities against agreed KPIs with internal stakeholders and use insights to measure reputation and engagement trends over time to make informed business decisions on priorities and resourcing.  
  • Champion corporate communications standards and policies, ensuring all materials follow appropriate approval process and brand standards.
  • Manage local communications budget. 
  • Coach internal partners and junior team members on communications best practice.
  • Champion creativity and continuous improvement to regularly improve future approach, leading team and process improvement projects as requested, proactively managing time, budget and resources.
  • When required, support communications and branding of the Institute of Advancing Science.

 

What are you looking for in you:

  • Degree in communications or related discipline.
  • Fluency in English essential; Italian native language.
  • Broad experience of managing complex PR or corporate communications (internal or external) initiatives, ideally pan-European/regional.
  • Experience of healthcare industry preferred, either agency or corporate setting (eg. MedTech, pharma, hospital, PR agency specialising in health).
  • Excellent written, oral and visual communication skills.
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to details.
  • At ease managing relationships with senior executives and proven track record in managing stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success at working under deadlines with excellent follow-through skills.
  • 15-20% travel is anticipated with this role, mainly within Italy, but occasionally to other locations within Europe.
