About the role:

Leads a family of product and/or technology development project/programs. Responsible for leading the commercialization or continuation of new products/services in Boston Scientific’s Technology Development Process (TDP), Product Development Process (PDP) or Sustaining Engineering (SE). Responsibilities include development and execution of a program plan to deliver the defined solution business case, identification and resolution of staffing and resource requirements and issues, and developing and managing the project deliverables and/or managerial oversight of a team of project managers tasked to do the same. This role requires a mix of project management expertise, business acumen, fact-based decision making, and collaborative stakeholder management. Key responsibilities include influencing the franchise portfolio, leading cross functional analysis, ensuring executional excellence of key projects, people development, and inspiring an inclusive culture that embraces diversity in hiring practices and retaining talent.  


Your responsibilities include:


Project/Program Management: 

  • Develops and implements business plan, including cost, schedule, risk and performance for new product introduction or continuation.
  • Leads the team in completion of product development plans including the continuous cascade to identified markets to ensure appropriate product availability in alignment with the commercialization plan or throughout the full lifecycle of the product.
  • Builds team ownership and commitment to project and business plans.
  • Provides structured thinking to project team on overall approach and delegates as appropriate.
  • Drives a high-performance culture by fostering innovation.
  • Directs and trains key project management processes – a focus on the Four Voices, personal accountability, and a commitment to results.
  • Leads the team in appropriate decision making through strong judgment and the ability to analyze options and implications.


Communications and Reviews: 

  • Responsible for department-level communications.
  • Liaison between the business unit and the PIB.
  • Participates in phase and business reviews; reviews IBPs; defines and tracks key business unit metrics.
  • Responsible for elevating critical business decisions on existing products to the appropriate management boards.


Relationship/People Management: 

  • Directs multiple project/program managers who are leading cross-functional development teams;
  • Provides input to functional directors on team and team member performance.
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with functional heads and BPT/PIB to drive success of Core Team members and overall Core Team contributions.
  • Actively influences cross-functional collaboration.
  • Will provide direct supervision to other Program Managers.
  • Sponsors professional development of project/program managers.


Product/Technology Management: 

  • Defines and influences the technical approach to technology application and new product development.
  • Identifies, communicates, and manages business unit technical risk.


Process Management: 

  • Demonstrates PDP/TDP system knowledge through delivery of high quality and high impact deliverables.
  • Knowledge of quality system use for the creation and continued compliance of products.
  • Actively leads and reviews policy and practice improvements to drive functional excellence.
  • Influences cross-functional and cross-divisional systems effectiveness.


Franchise Leadership: 

  • Works as a member of a cross-functional Franchise Leadership Team on one of the Divisions two Franchises – Prosthetic Urology, Prostrate Health and Women’s health
  • Plays an active role in overall oversight of the franchise portfolio to include investment proposals all the way through to end-of-life decisions.
  • Partners closely with peers in Marketing, Finance, R&D, Clinical, Quality, Operations, and Regulatory to develop and execute a product portfolio designed to continue our global leadership position.

  • May direct and control the activities and budget of one or more functional areas, divisions, product groups, projects/programs and/or operations.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures (e.g. federal/country and regulatory requirements).
  • Builds internal and external stakeholder partnerships to further organizational objectives.  Communicates clearly, credibly, and decisively to senior level leadership both within the division and across the matrix.


What we’re looking for in you:

  • Minimum of 10 years broad, cross-functional, management experience including project management leadership (medical device experience not required but a plus)
  • Excellent technical project management skills and PMP certified
  • Functional management
  • Leads initiatives and inspires a diverse and inclusive culture
  • Leads initiatives that contribute to the EEE culture
  • Direct leadership in functional supporting the product development process
  • Portfolio Management
  • Bachelor’s degree (delete in engineering? or applicable field), MBA preferred
  • Excels in cross functional & collaborative leadership and stakeholder management
  • Proven track record of motivating teams and functions to achieve above plan performance
  • Strong business acumen & strategic thought leadership
  • Proven ability to drive execution of a portfolio of projects
