R&D Principal Mechanical Design Engineer - Electrophysiology

About the role: 
We are looking for a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to lead generation and implementation of technical concepts, procedures, and practices. The role will interpret user feedback, provides design solutions, give portfolio level considerations and offer paths to resolve issues related to biomedical applications.  

 
Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Provide design solution space to technical problems 
  • Provide multiple options and considerations based on feedback from clinical, manufacturing and business teams 
  • Design components, mechanisms, mechanical interfaces to solve clinical problems – take inputs from R&D project teams and make DFM considerations 
  • Provide guidance on material selection, mechanical interactions and mechanisms  
  • Develops new concepts from initial design to market release.  
  • Researches, develops, designs, and evaluates mechanical and electro-mechanical material, components, assemblies, processes and/or equipment.  
  • Work as an SME across several projects providing bigger picture view of mechanical design considerations 
  • Work with product design teams to identify, ideate, prototype and provide proof of feasibility for concepts.  
  • Work with product teams and external vendors to provide working prototypes to finalized components.  
  • Expert in 3D design (such as SolidWorks) and technical communication (including technical drawings and presentations)  
  • Creates advanced CAD models of parts, assemblies and equipment using SolidWorks tools.  
  • Uses CAD Database Management tool to track drawings, parts, assemblies’ revisions, and properties.  
  • Support in documentation of components, assemblies and test methods  
  • Guide junior engineers to develop test methods, test concepts and designs.  
  • Conducts feasibility studies to verify capability and functionality.  
  • Maintains detailed documentation throughout all phases of research and development.  
  • Help support growth of engineers, provide direction and input to designs.  
  • Support development of IP portfolio  
  • Other duties as required  

 

Required qualifications:  

  • B.Eng. / BS in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.  
  • Minimum years of experience: 12+ years with CAD Software such as SolidWorks.  
  • Strong mechanical engineering skills, ideally with molds, assemblies, surface modeling, industrial design and plastic design using a CAD software.  
  • Experience in molded parts design, mold design and drafting.  
  • Ability to provide technical leadership related to product design.  
  • Ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on technical inputs from multiple and varied sources.  
  • Experience with leading rapid design iteration (utilizing capabilities such as 3D printing), testing and making design recommendations  
  • Ability to independently develops and adapts work plans based on vague or changing project goals 
  • Candidates should be self-starters and have a hands-on approach 
  • Excellent organizational, communication and collaboration skills.  
  • Excellent documentation skills and 2D drawings.  
  • In all actions, demonstrates a primary commitment to patient safety and product quality 

 


Preferred qualifications:  

  • Experience with geometrical tolerancing and thermal analysis.  
  • Experience with catheter devices or platform development. 
  • Possess a strong interest in biomedical technology 
  • Experience with thermodynamics and flow analysis.  
  • Experience with mechatronics, motors, gears and/or motor control applications.
