PURPOSE STATEMENT

The Head of Country, Philippines, based in Manila, is responsible for planning, directing and leading the execution of the country’s business strategies and achievement of key performance indicators. The role provides full accountability for the country business, including P&L ownership, cross-functional leadership, and strategic decision-making in a matrix set-up. While the scope is focused on a single market, the breadth, complexity, and level of ownership reflect enterprise-level leadership responsibilities. In addition, the role involves driving regional and global initiatives in the Philippines, monitoring and measuring performance against objectives, and fostering a high-performance culture by building, developing, and retaining a strong leadership team. This includes building the right capabilities within the team, ensuring succession planning and employee engagement, upskilling employees and driving leadership capabilities to meet current and future business needs.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Set a compelling vision, formulate and execute long-term strategies, and deliver above-market leveraged growth.
- Build and lead various teams, strengthen culture and drive change in a complex and diverse environment.
- Influence divisional/regional/enterprise decisions through cross-cultural agility and global business knowledge to strengthen BSC’s global standing.
- Manage profit & loss (P&L): make effective decisions in complex environments across a range of compelling investments and manage trade-offs that drive leveraged growth.
- Consistently and sustainably plan and execute winning commercial strategy that increases share, builds the brand, and engages customers and employees.
- Market Development & Revenue Growth: develops an annual country business plan and specific market-focused strategies to grow the business profitably; guides the development of local market strategies aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of BSC and nurtures customer relationships with key opinion leaders, government officials etc. to influence Boston Scientific's positioning and business activity.
- Engages in developing and leading major strategic sales initiatives and participates selectively in developing, negotiating and managing major accounts.
- Organization Vitality: Works actively to create a values-based organization culture that leads to differentiation and advantage for the business in the marketplace. Collaborate with the HR Business Partner on critical human resource processes and activities that enhances BSC as an "employer of choice" - including recruiting, compensation, employee development and performance management etc., and be involved in developing, motivating and retaining a team of highly qualified professionals.
- Business Integrity: Ensures timely and accurate reporting on key performance metrics; that process controls are in place to protect company assets; builds critical alliances/relationships within BSC, in the region and outside the organization.
Quality System:
- Guides the local Leadership Team to maintain full compliance with the BSC Quality System (Corporate Quality Manual and Procedures) and the local quality requirements under the initiative of International Quality Director.
- Participates in driving quality awareness in every employee, while guiding the local organization towards improved performance and customer-oriented initiatives.
- Provides input to the Quality Committee on local issues, with the purpose of either finding a solution from other countries' experiences or providing advice on potential barriers for other countries and local regulations.
- Participate as appropriate in Management Review of Quality Meetings to manage risks/issues associated with regulatory compliance, quality systems and product registrations; Champions and ensure implementation of Regulatory, Quality, Code of Conduct and Local/Regional initiative for assigned organization.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
- Demonstrated P&L ownership or significant financial accountability, with experience driving revenue growth, profitability, cost discipline, and delivery against financial targets through robust planning, forecasting, and performance management.
- General management readiness, with experience contributing to and executing business or country strategies aligned with regional and global priorities, focused on sustainable and profitable growth in the Philippines.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant industry experience, including senior commercial or business leadership roles. This position is open to high-potential leaders who have demonstrated readiness through expanded scope, end-to-end business accountability, and consistent performance, and who are prepared to take on their first General Manager role.
- Business growth and stakeholder engagement experience, including market development, partnerships, and representing the company with customers, industry associations, and regulatory or government stakeholders, as appropriate.
- Proven people leadership capability, with experience leading and developing teams across layers, functions, matrixed or geographically diverse environments, supported by talent development practices.
- Organizational and capability leadership, strengthening functional excellence (e.g., commercial, digital, innovation, or operational capabilities), enabling cross-geography collaboration, and supporting change initiatives aligned with business priorities.
- Operational experience, ensuring strong execution, KPI discipline, effective risk management, and oversight of distributors, inventory, and customer service standards.
- Geographic mobility required: this role is based in Manila, Philippines. Candidates not currently based in Manila must be willing to relocate, as commuting arrangements are not feasible given the scope and responsibilities of the role.
