The Manager I, Quality is responsible for leading Quality Engineering activities and driving initiatives focused on defect prevention, quality improvement and regulatory compliance at our Costa Rica site. This role establishes and maintains Quality Management Systems that meet regulatory requirements, corporate policies, internal procedures and business needs.

The manager will lead and develop a team of quality professionals while partnering cross-functionally to support manufacturing operations, product and process transfers, and continuous improvement initiatives. This individual will provide technical leadership, help ensure Quality System compliance and promote a work environment focused on patient safety, product quality and operational excellence.

 

Work model, sponsorship, relocation:

 

This is an on-site position based in Costa Rica, requiring employees to work from the local office four to five days per week. Boston Scientific will not offer sponsorship or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position at this time. Relocation assistance is not available for this position at this time.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Lead and coordinate Quality Engineering functions and activities, ensuring appropriate resources, priorities and processes are in place to meet business and Quality System objectives.

  • Plan, coordinate and execute projects focused on process defect prevention, continuous improvement and overall product and process quality.

  • Lead, coach and develop quality professionals, fostering technical excellence, accountability, collaboration and professional growth.

  • Provide technical quality support to manufacturing operations and cross-functional partners.

  • Review and approve applicable Quality System documentation, investigations and other quality records in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements.

  • Establish and maintain processes and procedures that support regulatory compliance and business needs.

  • Support the implementation of corporate and site quality initiatives and projects.

  • Provide training and technical guidance related to quality tools, technologies, processes and procedures.

  • Support new product and process transfer projects, representing Quality as appropriate and helping ensure quality requirements are incorporated throughout project execution.

  • Support the development and implementation of process control strategies, as applicable.

  • Provide guidance and oversight, as applicable, across areas such as process validation, software validation, complaint handling, calibration, microbiology, supplier quality, quality process development and design assurance.

  • Support nonconforming event and CAPA processes, including investigation tracking, timely closure and continuous improvement activities, as applicable.

  • Participate in Product Inquiry Report activities, as applicable, ensuring appropriate execution, assessment, documentation and communication.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams and corporate stakeholders to identify and resolve quality, technical and operational issues.

  • Monitor team performance and quality results, identify improvement opportunities and adapt priorities and resources to achieve business objectives.

  • Promote a work environment that supports Boston Scientific's Quality Policy, Quality System, environmental health and safety requirements, and commitment to patient safety and product quality.

 

Qualifications:

 

Required qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science or a related technical discipline.

  • Experience in Quality Engineering, Quality Assurance, manufacturing quality or a related quality function within a regulated environment.

  • Experience leading teams, projects or quality initiatives and influencing cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Working knowledge of Quality Management Systems and quality processes, including nonconforming product, CAPA, process controls, process validation and product acceptance.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve technical, operational and organizational quality issues.

  • Strong communication, collaboration and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions and organizational levels.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities, allocate resources and adapt plans to meet business, operational and quality objectives.

 

Preferred qualifications:

 

  • Previous direct people leadership experience.

  • Medical device industry experience.

  • Experience supporting manufacturing operations and new product or process transfers.

  • Experience with process validation, complaint handling, supplier quality, design assurance or related quality disciplines.

  • Knowledge of applicable medical device regulations and industry quality standards.

  • Experience driving continuous improvement and defect-prevention initiatives in a manufacturing environment.
