Boston Scientific Corporation is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Intellectual Property (IP) Engineer to join our innovative IP Legal Team. This role focuses on bridging R&D and IP teams, offering data- and analysis-based insights, and supporting the advancement of impactful IP portfolios. The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise, IP proficiency, and a collaborative attitude to support the IP Legal Team in serving R&D stakeholders working on cutting-edge medical technologies. 

 

  • Collaborate with R&D stakeholders to understand technical roadmaps and business objectives.
  • Lead patent landscapes and whitespace analysis to identify additional innovation opportunities.
  • Review competitor patent alerts and portfolios in concert with AI-based patent analytics tools in support of internal IP attorneys.
  • Identify and address gaps in innovation pipelines by working closely with engineering and product development teams.
  • Foster a culture of innovation by partnering with India-based R&D teams and acting as a liaison to IP attorneys based in the United States.
  • Identify innovations and support their submission into the company’s patent application process.
  • Provide high-level IP training to local R&D teams under the supervision and guidance of internal IP attorneys.
  • Work independently and accommodate time zone differences between India and the United States.

 

Basic Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical or scientific field is required. Master’s degree is preferred but optional.
  • Certification as an Indian Patent Agent or equivalent is desirable.
  • A minimum of 7+ years of experience in intellectual property, including patent landscaping, whitespace analysis, or other patent-focused work.
  • A background in the medical device, pharmaceutical, or healthcare sectors is highly preferred but optional.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills. Proficient in using Excel spreadsheets
  • Proficient quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, with the ability to generate succinct, informative insights.
  • Strong proficiency using Excel spreadsheets and generating informative PowerPoint slides is critical to success.
  • Familiarity with patent-focused software platforms—such as Anaqua, PatentSight, Derwent, Cipher, and/or AcclaimIP—is preferrable.
