Purpose Statement:

Manage the regional Medical Affairs activities including Medical Education and Field Medical responsibilities.  Manage a team of Medical Affairs Managers and field staff (Medical Advisors/MSLs).  Responsible for assisting in developing and executing on the regional IO Medical Strategy.  This role provides leadership, operational, and field support to the EMEA IO business.  Responsible for establishing, fostering, cultivating and maintaining bi-directional scientific communication with multiple external entities (external scientific and medical leaders, academic medical institutions, disease and patient societies etc).  Acts as the conduit for accurate and updated clinical, scientific and medical information between the external scientific community in the assigned region and the company, while ensuring that the medical team is deployed appropriately to support achievement of strategic regional objectives.

 

Location: This role can be based in any Boston Scientific main Hub (France-Voisins le Bretonneux, United Kingdom-Hemel Hempstead, Italy-Milan, Germany-Ratingen, Spain-Madrid, Poland-Warsaw)

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct and Manage a regionally based medical team in line with company, industry, and governmental policies on interactions with HCPs
  • Provide specialist Medical advice and education to HCPs and product users to ensure the safe and appropriate use of BOSTON SCIENTIFIC products
  • Work with Global medical management, customers, and cross-functional commercial partners to ensure seamless alignment of the Medical Strategy within Interventional Oncology and overall corporate strategy
  • Responsible for ongoing development and execution of the regional Medical Education training program ensuring alignment with the annual Global Medical Plan.
  • Responsible for driving data dissemination
  • Serves as the Medical liaison between regional physicians, field teams, and commercial functions in order to appropriately interpret field intelligence, physician needs, practice patterns and behaviors within the IO field
  • Supports Commercial, Regulatory and Market Access departments with medical expertise input and scientific materials to complete promotional material development or regulatory/funding applications
  • Gather and report on medical expert field intelligence to identify issues and opportunities
  • Manage team to execute on best strategies to support company R&D and training initiatives
  • Gather and report on appropriate performance metrics in order to track efficiency and value of medical team
  • Manage team to ensure relationships with External Experts are being developed and maintained appropriately and that stakeholder management is in line with strategic direction of the business unit
  • Develops strategic relationships with Key Opinion Leaders, therapeutic area leaders, scientific societies, external influencers and internal stakeholders in support of above-listed activities. 
  • Maintain subject matter expertise through medical and scientific literature, and attendance at congresses in interventional oncology.
  • Fully comply with all company policies and applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
  • Ensure that all activities and interactions are carried out with the highest ethical and professional standards and that all work is accomplished with quality and in accordance with BOSTON SCIENTIFIC values.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Advanced degree, ideally a post-graduate qualification or equivalent work experience demonstrating excellence in healthcare practice or research.
  • 10+ years relevant experience working within the framework of Medical Affairs
  • Experience as a Medical Director with management experience of field-based teams
  • Experience with impactful formal presentation and interaction with global/regional level experts is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships in the field
  • Budget management experience
  • Therapeutic area experience within oncology is required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of global healthcare standards
  • Good understanding of regulatory guidelines and Good Clinical Practices

  • Ability to travel within EMEA and internationally
