About the role:

The Boston Scientific Hepatic Artery Infusion (HAI) Area Sales Director position will lead a team focused on the growth of HAI therapy for half of the country. They will lead a team of HAI Consultants and HAI Specialists that are focused on supporting Surgical Oncologists, Medical Oncologists, and their care teams that help patients suffering from colorectal liver metastases and cholangiocarcinoma. We are looking for a high energy, driven, and passionate leader who would like to make a difference for their team, physician customers, and patients. The HAI Area Sales Director West will cover the Western United States, which includes the majority of states west of the Mississippi River.  Candidates may live in any major metropolitan area with access to an airport.  Travel will be approximately 75%

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Industry Knowledge: Responsible for providing continuous tools and education to team members to ensure up to date clinical evidence and product knowledge; Maintains knowledge of the industry and competing therapies by continually seeking information from implanting physicians, the broader multidisciplinary team, insurance carriers and others to challenge, modify and prioritize area and national strategies; Collects data from their area on market dynamics and keeps the marketing organization aware; Maintains awareness of industry trends and their impact on local/area sales activities.
  • Business Management: Monitors area sales performance on an ongoing basis, initiating corrective actions, preparing reports, summaries, analysis and documentation on all aspects of area management; Assists sales support/marketing staff members in activities such as sales promotion, training or market research in planning and executing special projects; Ensures the effective implementation of representative customer records, key contacts, reports and adherence to field inventory processes; Develops and executes sales strategies and activities; Plans and controls expenses to ensure sales objectives are met within budget; Performs a monthly P&L review; Integrates individual territory plans and account profiles into a broader area sales plan and coaches sales team accordingly; Conducts quarterly sales reviews and adjusts strategies accordingly.
  • Selling Skills: Prepares quarterly area sales forecasts and participates in the determination of market potential and sales expense estimates; Identifies sales forecast gaps, submits corrective strategies and implements aggressive sales growth; Confers with immediate superior and marketing personnel to make recommendations on new products and existing product line revisions as well as pricing changes; Develops and recommends expansion analysis of new field territories; Responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring an area targeting program; Identifies and recommends promotion programs and materials to help support the sales plan and strategy; Shares personal selling experiences in a way that motivates others and teaches applicable skills; Coaches others in the field on a disciplined selling model; Models strong selling skills in front of the customer with others present and without taking over the sales process; Actively supports corporate/divisional selling initiatives by proactively assisting in the training and influencing their team.
  • Clinical Excellence: Maintains the skills and knowledge to sell HAI therapy to all applicable buying influences and can differentiate HAI against competing therapies when speaking to various stakeholders.
  • Building and Maintaining Relationships: Maintains contact with major accounts and develops relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs); Attends and participates in customer, company and industry  sponsored forums and medical education courses; Develops and maintains relationships with key BSC functional areas including but not limited to - marketing, medical affairs, and the broader IO&E sales team; Spends a minimum of 70% time in the field with HAI team members to support their professional development needs and to maintain and develop strong relationships with and an understanding of the customer.
  • Creative Economic and Value-Added Solutions: Identifies and develops working relationships with the economic buyer in their regions key accounts; Facilitation of contract negotiations related to HAI across the area; Evaluates situations as they affect both the account/customer, as well as the division’s overall long and short-term business needs; Works collaboratively with other sales leaders within the division.

 

Required qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in healthcare sales
  • 2+ years of experience in medical device sales
  • Experience selling in the oncology market or operating room 
  • Bachelors degree

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Previous management experience building high-performing teams in medical device sales.
  • Experience with market development of a new product, procedure, or therapy.
  • Strong clinical, analytical, and selling skills.
  • Experience managing a high volume of accounts and broad geography.

The anticipated annualized base amount or range for this full time position will be $150,000 to $180,000, plus variable compensation governed by the Sales Incentive Compensation Plan (which includes certain annual non-discretionary incentives based on predetermined objectives) as well as the value of core and optional benefits offered at BSC, which can be reviewed at www.bscbenefitsconnect.com. Actual compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, and other relevant business or organizational needs.
