Sr. AWS DevOps Engineer

 

About this role:

We are looking for a motivated Sr. AWS DevOps Engineer to join our agile cross-functional product team. This person will own our AWS infrastructure. This role is  responsible for architecture, design and implementation of platform solutions for our product on AWS. The person in this role will work with key stakeholders and technical leaders to analyze and build cloud platform solutions and processes to deliver highly secure, scalable and reliable services. The role will also be responsible for management of operational support and coordination with our internal IT team.

 

Key responsibilities

 include but not limited to:

  • Work with key stakeholders to clearly define detailed requirements, plan and prioritize work as per the business needs
  • Provide leadership and guidance for DevOps engineers
  • The person in this role will have strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, solid communication skills, a desire to tackle the complex problems and a genuine passion for technology. The person may come from an infrastructure background and should be comfortable with writing scripts and basic software code to enhance and streamline daily activities.
  • Ownership, keen attention to detail, quality of work and operational excellence are essential qualities for this role. A person who is a doer, able to role sleeves up, working on current problems while thinking about the future strategies
  • Design, implement and deploy cloud platform solutions
  • Ensure adherence to high security standards
  • Strive for zero downtime when deploying solutions/services
  • Develop and own processes/procedures for scaling, capacity planning, configuration management, monitoring etc.
  • Provide day to day operational support and perform systems administration tasks
  • Ensure high quality monitoring coverage
  • Identify potential points of failure in the infrastructure/systems and develop a mitigation strategy
  • Drive automation
  • Provide operational support and coordination with our internal IT team

 

What we are looking for:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, or related field
  • 6 or more years of relevant experience
  • 3 or more years of experience provisioning, operating, and managing AWS environments. Hands on experience in networking setup (VPC, subnets, routing, security group…)
  • 2 or more years of Jenkins experience
  • Good knowledge of security as it relates to cloud based infrastructure
  • Master of at least one scripting language (python/Shell/Bash)
  • Experience with Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Understand container runtimes and virtualization technologies. Hands on experience with docker and/or Kubernetes.
  • Proactive working mindset. Detailed oriented.
  • Willing/love to learn new technologies.
  • Sense of ownership and responsibilities.

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Successfully leading a small devops team
  • Monitoring, logging and alerting of large distributed systems
  • Managing large scale tasks from inception to completion
  • Experience with infrastructure or application automation
  • Experience with maintaining and supporting large scale customer facing environments
  • Sound analytical, problem solving and decision making skills
  • We are currently using the following technologies (but this is evolving all the time). The more you know, the better
    • AWS - CloudFormation, EC2, RDS, Lambda, S3, SQS, SNS, CloudSearch, CloudWatch, VPC, EMR, Kinesis, Lambda, ECS, Route 53, etc
    • NoSQL - DynamoDB, CouchBase
    • Operating Systems - Windows, Linux, Mac
    • Database – MySQL, PostgressQL
    • Scripting Languages - PowerShell, bash, Python
    • CI / CD - Git, Gitlab, Bitbucket, TerraForm, Jenkins, AWS CodeDeploy
    • Other stuff – Kafka, Docker, K8S
