R&D Director – Interventional Cardiology, Baytech R&D hub (San Jose, CA)

 

About the role:

  • This is an exciting opportunity to join Boston Scientific as a Director in Research and Development in the Diagnostics area for our Interventional Cardiology division.
  • Primary responsibilities include the identification, development, and implementation of strategic initiatives for new technologies, maintaining franchise structure, and management development.
  • Interventional Cardiology (IC) we design, develop, and produce technologies for diagnosing and treating coronary artery disease and other cardiovascular disorders. Medical Conditions we provide solutions for include: Cardiovascular Diseases, Structural Heart, Coronary Artery Disease, Acute Myocardial Infarction, Heart Failure. We are able to provide a number of solutions to patients that include: Drug-Eluting Stents, Left Atrial Apendage Closure devices, Heart valve replacement, Catheters, Balloons, Guide Wires, Coronary Atherectomy and Coronary Intravascular Ultrasound. We have a robust product line and pipeline, and we will continue to make an investment in Interventional treatments.
  • Research and Development (R&D) leader for complex electro-mechanical systems, comprising Hardware, Software, Firmware and Diagnostic catheters and wires.  Set and drive platform technology direction for next gen devices and evaluate strategic partnerships, with focus on customer engagement.
  • Responsible for innovation and associated technology evolution into product, with a fast-fail and collaborative approach to product development.

 

 

Your responsibilities include:

  • Identifies new strategies and projects for the investigation, design, and implementation of new or improved products and/or applications.
  • Creates and champions new efforts.
  • Creates an entrepreneurial environment.
  • Identifies future technology and intellectual property critical to future business growth and drives implementation.   Active participant in the due diligence process.
  • Leads technology advancements for the department.
  • Ensures that new product and processing technologies are ready for new product development efforts.
  • Have extensive internal contacts across BSC and external contacts with physicians and/or industry specialists.
  • Collaboratively determines short and long term product strategies and technologies.
  • Encourages problem-solving processes leading to solutions that can be leveraged across divisions.
  • Ensure sharing of initiatives/ideas and accomplishments across the divisions.
  • Responsible for succession planning and the development and implementation of retention strategies.
  • Proactively reviews future technologies and plans needed resources with appropriate technical skills either through external search or training to prepare.
  • Develops and ensures budgets and schedules meet corporate requirement.
  • Evaluate adjacency opportunities to the Coronary core businesses.
  • Manage assessment process of certain targets for acquisition or distribution.
  • Champions new programs or refocuses existing initiatives based on knowledge of unmet clinical needs of customers and develops proposals for new projects.
  • Act as entry point and contact for external entities approaching BSC for partnership.
  • Conduct and/or support deal analysis to include: target recommendations, strategic rationale, financial case, target valuation, deal structure, deal valuation, and integration planning.
  • Articulate strategic fit, assessment, and valuation of strategic opportunities.
  • Manage existing relationships with certain external vendors and business partners: negotiate contract changes, add new products, terminations, etc.
  • Support divisional Strategic Planning process as needed to include competitive analysis, market sizing and growth rates, evaluation and recommendation of business strategies and tactics.
  • Work across divisional and corporate functions to accomplish objectives.
  • Develop effective and persuasive presentations for divisional leadership and EC level meetings.
  • Act as internal consultant to Marketing and Business Development for strategic questions around market modeling, assessment of competitive threats, and resource allocations.

 

What we’re looking for:

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS degree in Engineering or applicable field (MS preferred)
  • 12 or more years of technical professional experience
  • 8 or more years people management experience
