About the role:
Senior Materials Distribution Manager in Spencer, will oversee the Logistics department and sets the direction for functions of traffic (international and domestic), receiving, inventory control and cycle counting, picking, warehousing and distribution. This person will partner with Purchasing and Manufacturing to optimize department performance. Hire, train and develop personnel for the inventory control, receiving, warehousing, traffic, top assembly packaging and shipping personnel.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Define and lead the continuous improvement roadmap to drive improvement in freight, warehousing, and material handling costs and efficiency.
- Manage $10M budget for offsite warehousing, freight, and material handling supporting a 24/7 approximately 1200 person manufacturing facility
- Manager two supervisors an indirect team of over 50 material handlers and warehouse personnel
- Oversee the cycle count program for sub-assemblies and purchased material. This includes generating weekly SAP reports to determine weekly scheduled cycle counts. Also included is performing a quarterly analysis and update of physical inventory indicators.
- Manage retain sample request and expiration management for raw and finished product.
- Coordinate the annual retains physical inventory.
- Monitor supply chain performance (i.e. physical flow, allocation, master data, and intervene as required to ensure optimal performance)
- Use SAP reporting tools to analyze and investigate questionable inventory accuracy issues.
- Work with internal and external auditors on a regular schedule to ensure department policies related to inventory accuracy are in line with company goals and objectives.
- Oversee process execution for obsolete and excess material to ensure this material is transacted and disposed of properly.
- Develop documented receiving and cycle count policies and procedures to ensure accurate inventory records.
- Oversee all traffic and warehouse functions in Spensor.
- Work closely with purchasing, planning, and manufacturing to ensure material for sister plants and other BSC partners is being pulled and shipped in a timely manner while maintaining inventory accuracy.
- Actively participate in VIP process, continuously contributing VIP’s.
- Staff Development: Provide development and growth opportunities, foster, and recognize continuous improvement initiatives; Demonstrate leadership, set improvement goals and department objectives. Review performance on a regular basis and deliver salary and performance reviews; Actively work to implement cutting edge technology and to increase technical expertise in the Logistics and Traffic department; Create an environment of positive reinforcement, risk taking and teamwork; Ensure the Logistics department stays up to date on market trends that affect our company.
- Systems: Possess strong working knowledge of computer systems, (i.e. SAP, Word, and Excel); Creates documented Logistics policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GMP and ISO requirements; Oversee the turns and execution of the ken ban system set up by purchasing and executed by the Logistics staff; Maintain Access databases for cycle counting, scrap and material control production supply activity; Reviews and approves change requests that are applicable to the Logistics function.
- Department Management: Budget and control department annual operating expenses; Establish and maintain Logistics practices and policies; Work closely with finance to ensure inventory reconciliation activities are in line with current finance policies; Constantly work toward streamlining Logistics processes to eliminate non-value added activities; Responsible to staff, direct and organize the Logistics function; Create and maintain a safe work environment for all members of the Logistics department.
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 8+ years of related experience in distribution, logistics or supply chain
- 5+ years of direct supervisory or mentorship experience
- Must have continuous improvement and/or Lean experience
Preferred qualifications:
- Medical device experience
- SAP Experience
