About the role:
As a Packaging Engineering Co-Op, your role is to aid in the development and implementation of packaging / labeling products, materials and solutions for Boston Scientific (BSC) medical devices. Packaging is essential for maintaining the integrity and safety of BSC medical devices from production to end-use, impacting the lives of millions of people globally. Under the direct supervision / guidance of BSC Packaging Engineers, you will compile, analyze and report on operational, test, and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified products, processes, or materials for packaging and labeling.
Help develop medical device packaging testing in conjunction with ASTM standards, develop / execute test method verification and validation activities, and document procedures for performing the testing, ensuring packaging systems meet industry and regulatory standards.
Your key responsibilities:
This position will aid Package Engineers in completing project deliverable such as test protocols and reports, rationales, testing, inspection, and change control activities. Training will be assigned to the Co-op through the BSC training management system and include required training for the tasks that the Co-op will be expected to complete. A formal training plan will be reviewed and assigned by the Packaging Engineering Supervisor upon the start of employment and amended as needed. In addition, the Co-op will receive hands-on training from their Supervisor and other Packaging Engineers throughout the employment to build understanding of the processes and procedures being followed.
Training that will be provided to the Co-op student while in this position:
- On-site Packaging Lab testing (visuals and performance testing)
- Vendor and customer visits
- Voice of Customer or Usability testing
- Design and prototyping activities
- Protocol and report overviews
- Good Documentation Practices in a Regulated Industry
- Optional professional skills development training courses
Required Qualifications:
- Current student working towards a Bachelor of Science in Packaging Engineering degree
- Required graduation dates for the summer/fall 2025 Co-op are between Dec 2025 to June 2028 and required graduation dates for the winter/spring 2026 Co-op are between June 2026 to June 2029
- Must have authorization to work in the United States without restriction
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Completion of Distribution Dynamics and/or Medical Device Packaging class
- Intermediate knowledge related to paperboard, corrugated, flexible packaging films, Tyvek, thermoformed trays, and packaging equipment
- Strong interpersonal skills: ability to build relationships and collaborate with internal and external teams
- Organized and results-oriented; ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize competing tasks
- Ability to communicate with individuals on all levels
- Ability to work independently to plan, schedule, and execute activities necessary to meet project timelines
- Critical-thinking and problem-solving skills are essential

Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
