About the role:

We have an exciting opportunity for an electro-mechanical Principal R&D Engineer that independently conducts sustaining design and development work on Class II and Class III products for the Boston Scientific Neuromodulation division. This role requires minimal technical direction on a broad scope of projects. Product Franchises Supported include Deep Brain Stimulation and Pain (Radio Frequency Ablation, Spinal Cord Stimulation, and Vertiflex Spinal Stenosis). 


Your responsibilities include:


  • Drive complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved products, techniques, and procedures. Work is expected to result in the design and development of refined technologies, products, specification, materials, test methods, processes, and/or equipment
  • Organize, plan, track and close out design problems associated w/product performance in engineering, manufacturing, and the field
  • Provide oversight to Manufacturing Sites for Design, Quality and Project related activities
  • Provide technical leadership, work direction, training, and/or technical expertise to technicians and less experienced engineers
  • Ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on technical inputs from multiple and varied sources
  • Use standard design processes to support product development and improve productivity.  Facilitate process improvement within a specified discipline (e.g., design methodologies, standards & tool evaluation)
  • Participate in budgeting process by providing input relating to team project portfolio.
  • Participate and present at project, departmental, and divisional meetings.
  • Drive problems solving for unique technical problems
  • Work with the Regulatory Dept to ensure that design and test specs for the system meet or exceed all applicable regulatory standards
  • Support regulatory submissions and questions
  • Assures that appropriate resources (personnel, tools, etc.) are maintained in order to assure Quality System compliance and adherence to the BSC Quality Policy
  • Establishes and promotes a work environment that supports the Quality Policy and Quality System


What we are looking for:


  • BS in Engineering (Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering preferred)
  • Required minimum years of work experience 12+ years
  • Excellent electro-mechanical engineering design skills 
  • Working knowledge of design for quality principles
  • Strong SolidWorks CAD Experience with FEA Modeling experience (GD&T preferred)
  • Strong testing method development with fixture and equipment design experience
  • Ability to provide technical leadership as it relates to product, design, and process
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and collaborative skills
  • Solid statistical analysis (Minitab experience preferred)
  • Experience with rapid prototyping to accelerate proof of concepts
  • Experience with tolerance analysis
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally 5 - 10%
  • General knowledge of CNS and spinal anatomy and physiology
