About the Role:

Independently or as member of a team; Engineer will be responsible to develop system specifications, participate in systems architecture and design, support integration and system testing. The Principal Systems Engineer may lead a technical team, or focus on a domain specialty with the goal of providing a quality system/product that meets the user needs. Lead engineering efforts to develop quality, complex medical device systems such as Electronic Medical Equipment (EME), combination medical devices, implantable products, and/or software only products, etc., for market leading differentiation and segment growth. Responsibilities include working with cross functional teams on new product development and sustaining projects.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Works with all stakeholders to translate user needs into design requirements (e.g. hardware, software, mechanical, electrical, interface, etc.) consisting of system requirements, sub-system requirements, product/system security requirements, digital architecture and system interface requirements to define the system as a whole and all associated sub-systems.
  • Design, define, and implement system requirements to generate design inputs/outputs, associated processes and working parameters by using current systems engineering methods and technologies. 
  • Participates in conception, system architecture and design of new or next generation technologies/products. May include simulations, mathematical analysis and/or system interaction analysis.
  • Analyze, coordinate system partitioning (i.e. hardware/software partitioning) and total system integration by using systems engineering practices.
  • Analyze system requirements to determine testability, completeness and support development of system tests, characterization testing and requirement-test traceability.
  • Solves system problems by analyzing the situation and recommending corrective or alternative actions.
  • Coordinates and manage design teams in the completion of project documents, designs, estimates, and costs.
  • Complete project deliverables and monitor schedule and scope changes to assure team can meet delivery requirements.
  • Builds Systems Engineering capability by mentoring engineers in engineering activities/methodologies and domain knowledge.
  • Continuously improve processes and work methodologies (using agile/lean principles to eliminate waste) to help solve complex, interdisciplinary problems by interfacing with peers/cross-functional groups
  • Contribute to software/system risk assessment activities, Use/Design FMEA’s activities.
  • Assists Regulatory with product submissions.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field 
  • 7+ years’ of experience with product development activities in a regulated environment
  • Experience with requirements authoring, requirements analysis, software product/tool design, development and verification. 
  • Understanding of hardware/software design and trade-offs, performance and redundancy issues
  • Knowledge of Software and System Architectures and design principles. 
  • Experience using configuration management, test management, requirements management, and issue tracking systems
  • Ability to lead teams through a structured approach to solving complex technical problems.
  • Strong knowledge of Design Controls & Risk Management practices
  • Strong personal credibility & excellent communication skills


Preferred Qualifications & Experience:


  • At least 7 years of experience leading product development teams in a Medical Regulated Environment. 
  • Experience in building and modifying System Architectures, Systems Requirements, Systems Design for implantable medical devices and connected platform eco-systems.
  • Experience with connected Digital Systems for Remote Patient monitoring and programming
  • Knowledgeable in Human Factors and Usability Engineering processes as part of regulated product development.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with and influence key stakeholders both internal and external to the organization.
  • Experience dealing with regulatory questions from FDA, BSI, TUV
