Primary Function:

The candidate would be expected to lead a team that designs, develops, implements and maintains testing protocols for verification of software requirements with a track record of high quality and timely delivery. The ideal candidate should be highly motivated with extensive technical knowledge of advanced testing concepts, test automation, use of simulators and formal software verification strategies for regulated software in the medical device industry; or other regulated industry. The candidate should use his/her knowledge in guiding the team as well as reviewing their work with a sense of ownership.

The individual should be a team player who is willing to collaborate and work with cross functional teams across geographies and cultures. The individual should also be driven for excellence yet be able do trade-offs to keep projects on schedule. Strong technical background in medical devices would be preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze System and Software requirements to determine testability, completeness and consistency. Provide critical feedback to requirements author.
  • Perform ripple effect analysis for requirements and design level changes using technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques as they relate to software testing.
  • Develop test objective and design test protocols by performing in-depth requirements analysis.
  • Assess the need to automate tests and develop either automated or manual test scripts.
  • Provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of large scope and complexity.
  • Review test strategies, test protocol developed by team members and provide guidance based on standard operating procedures, work instructions, and any additional documents.
  • Prepare strategies to perform testing for changes in mobile application, and also major/minor changes in operating system.
  • Distribute the work among the verification team members. Monitor for any bottlenecks forming and pro-actively address them.
  • Provide regular input to cross functional teams. Be the voice of the verification team.
  • Raise alarm to the cross functional team in case of schedule delays.
  • Conduct ad-hoc/exploratory testing, execute tests, analyze test failures and report software defects.
  • Compile data and define changes required in testing equipment, testing procedures, or new testing requirements.
  • Provide inputs for test equipment capabilities.
  • Provide traceable evidence between requirements and tests.
  • Write formal test plans and reports that can be used in submission packages to regulatory agencies.
  • Follow established standard operating procedures.   


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related field who understands Software life cycle process.
  • 5+ years’ experience in software verification.
  • 5+ years’ experience in writing automated tests for Application Software with 2+ years’ experience programming in Scripting Languages (preferably PHP or Python).
  • Experience using configuration management tools, requirements management tools, and defect tracking systems.
  • Experience in providing estimates and tracking team’s progress.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Completed coursework in object-oriented concepts and practical experience in their use.
  • Extensive technical knowledge of advanced testing concepts and formal Software and Systems Verification strategies for regulated Software, preferably in the Medical Device Industry.
  • Understand SW/HW systems and be able to test for the types of failure modes associated with these systems.
  • Experience in the Medical Device industry (or other regulated environment).


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience as a team lead with ability to provide effort estimation.
  • Knowledge of standard IEC 62304 Medical Device Software – Software life cycle process.
  • Knowledge of Software and System Architectures, Software Engineering Best Practices, and programming and scripting languages.
  • Knowledge of use of simulators in a complex system.
  • Knowledge of testing methodologies such as waterfall, agile.
  • Knowledge and experience working with Microsoft office products.
  • Evidence of training in advanced testing concepts such as model based testing.
