About the role:

Develop, implement, and ensure continuous improvement of the Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) systems. The primary purposes of these systems are; 1) maintaining compliance with the requirements of Boston Scientific’s corporate EH&S policies and requirements and all applicable national, state, and local regulations, 2) driving EH&S performance improvements and culture across the site, and 3) capturing and communicating information describing EH&S roles, responsibilities and contribution. This position will report directly to the EH&S Manager in supporting day-to-day EH&S operations.


Your responsibilities include:

  • Develop and implement new EH&S programs, policies, procedures, and training.
  • Maintain and report site EH&S metrics, statistics and records to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements, support the ISO 14001 EMS, and  fulfill Corporate reporting and information needs.
  • Support management of the Workers’ Compensation program, and pro-actively work to reduce work place injury frequency and severity rates.
  • Act as the facilities’ Hazardous Materials/Waste Coordinator to include the disposition of hazardous, non-regulated, and biomedical waste streams, including maintaining professional contacts with approved waste vendors.
  • Act as the facility’s Pollution Prevention/Waste Minimization/Recycling Site representative. Promote cost-savings/cost-avoidance measures throughout all operations of the facility.
  • Advocate for EH&S as a core value of Boston Scientific, and provide regular communications within the EH&S team regarding EH&S activities and performance.
  • Serve on the facility Emergency Response team.
  • Chair or serve on EH&S-related committees, task forces and/or cross functional teams.
  • Conduct EH&S compliance audits, self-assessments, and inspections throughout the facilities.
  • Conduct and/or coordinate periodic industrial hygiene, safety, and environmental sampling/testing.
  • Conduct chemical and hazard risk assessments, as well as operations risk assessments to specify engineering controls, and other regulatory requirements as applicable.
  • Identify hazardous workplace conditions and establishes guidelines for compliance, risk and injury reduction.
  • Takes effective steps to ensure that workplace conditions comply with applicable local, national and state regulations.
  • Provide regulatory guidance and recommendations for equipment specifications/installations, and facilities modifications.
  • Participate in regulatory inspections and serve as liaison with regulatory agencies.


What we're looking for:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in the areas of occupational safety, health and environment; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Knowledge of EH&S regulatory agencies’ protocols is required.
  • Hands-on experience in an industrial or manufacturing work environment is required.
  • Experience in both Safety and Environmental regulations required.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, DOT, ANSI, ISO 14001 regulations/standards/guidelines required.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret regulations, professional journals, and technical procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of physical/natural sciences and Industrial hygiene skills are a plus.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical, medical device or electronics industries is highly desired.
  • Ability to make aggressive EH&S decisions within the bounds of sound business strategic goals.
  • Ability to write business correspondence and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from senior managers, manufacturing staff, and the general public.
  • Must be computer literate with familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Self-starter with excellent communication (oral/written) and people skills.
