About the role:
The Senior Social Media Specialist for Neuromodulation is responsible for developing and launching paid and organic social media strategies for Boston Scientific (BSC) channels, including, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter and YouTube, to support the Pain franchises: spinal cord stimulation, Vertiflex® Procedure and radiofrequency ablation. The Social Media Specialist will manage all facets from strategy (as part of a broader communications strategy) and analytics to content development and Regulatory, Clinical and Legal review. This role reports to the Director of Marketing Communications and helps this leader manage all aspects of these channels across all the BSC Pain franchises and for healthcare professionals (HCPs) and direct-to-patient (DTP) audiences. 

In addition to meeting the experience requirements outlined below, this individual must have a proactive, can-do attitude and a highly collaborative communication style. This person must also demonstrate an ability to influence peers, colleagues and senior stakeholders who participate in the contribution and review process. This individual must also be deadline oriented. 


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and launch new social media channels for Boston Scientific supporting Pain franchises (spinal cord stimulation, Vertiflex® Procedure and radiofrequency ablation) to reach physicians and patients
  • Develop paid and organic strategic approach for social media channels, including content, following and engagement strategies
  • Educate internal subject matter experts (SMEs) on social media strategy and channels, and leverage them as content and SME partners
  • Write, edit, submit for Regulatory, Clinical and Legal approval, and post content to the Boston Scientific Neuromodulation social channels
  • Share/re-post appropriate and approved content
  • Monitor the Boston Scientific community conversations and manage inappropriate or off-label references
  • Manage patient comments on Boston Scientific channels and route complaints and requests through appropriate pathways
  • Conduct ongoing social listening to evaluate and assess Boston Scientific key opinion leaders (KOLs) and competitors’ social media presence to develop recommendations that enhance the Boston Scientific social presence
  • Manage and measure Neuromodulation social media programs for Boston Scientific
  • Develop and deliver monthly and quarterly social media reports with recommendations
  • Collaborate with Regulatory, Clinical and Legal for all required approvals
  • Collaborate with social media and Global Digital Marketing colleagues across Boston Scientific to ensure social media programs align with broader Boston Scientific brand and social media requirements
  • Develop (over time) a subject matter expertise about relevant Neuromodulation and Pain topics, potential content and KOLs
  • Support other critical Neuromodulation social media programs as assigned, such as advertising


Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism or other relevant field
  • 3+ years of experience in:
    • Managing at least one social media community for a global healthcare professional or patient audience 
    • Managing a social media community in the highly regulated medical device, biotech or pharmaceutical space
    • Gathering content from subject matter experts, and writing and managing social media content for HCP and patient audiences
    • Operating within a branded environment and complying with global brand standards
    • Developing, executing and measuring social media strategies 
    • Leveraging social management and listening tools, such as Social Studio and Radian6
    • Collaborating across a matrix organization
  • Experience as a medical/healthcare journalist is extremely valuable
  • Deep understanding of all social platforms including best practices for content development and distribution in each venue (i.e., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter and YouTube)
  • Superior social media writing skills for both healthcare professional and for patients/caregivers
