As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design, develop and test software applications for medical software products and other software solutions supporting implantable medical devices within Boston Scientific Neuromodulation. In this role, you will work independently as part of major research and development initiatives and provide technical oversight and direction on broad-scope or complex projects. You will serve as a technical expert in one or more technologies while helping deliver innovative, high-quality solutions for patients.

Work model, sponsorship, relocation:

At Boston Scientific, we value collaboration and synergy. This role follows a hybrid work model requiring employees to be in our Valencia, CA office at least three days per week. Boston Scientific will not offer sponsorship or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position at this time. Relocation assistance is not available for this position at this time.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Develop and test software for implantable neural stimulation systems and other software-related products, contributing to competitive advantages in performance, cost and quality.
• Develop C# applications using technologies such as WPF, UWP, service-oriented architecture and Entity Framework.
• Develop web applications using technologies such as Java, Vue, Spring Boot, REST, AWS, microservices and serverless architectures.
• Document software and test development activities through technical documentation, reports, memos and change requests in accordance with approved procedures and standards.
• Drive activities throughout the software development life cycle, including requirements definition, design, planning, code reviews and development of corresponding artifacts.
• Analyze, evaluate and verify requirements, software and systems using software engineering standards and best practices.
• Develop comprehensive engineering solutions that are architecturally and technically sound.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, methodologies, workflows and overall engineering effectiveness in partnership with peers and cross-functional teams.
• Promote a collaborative environment and pragmatic engineering decision-making.
• Develop and strengthen cross-functional relationships to identify and resolve technical and organizational challenges.
• Build collaborative relationships with key leaders, peers and partners across the organization.

Required qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years’ experience in software development, including proficiency in multiple programming languages, such as C#/.NET.
• Proficiency in Windows application development using WPF, XAML and MVVM.
• Demonstrated ability to develop web applications using Java, Vue, JavaScript/TypeScript or scripting languages.
• Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming principles and design patterns.
• Proficiency in unit and integration testing.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the software development life cycle and Agile development methodologies.
• Demonstrated knowledge of database development skills, including proficiency with SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across functions and build productive relationships with technical teams, peers and leaders.

Preferred qualifications:

• Familiarity with medical device regulations and standards, including 21 CFR Part 820, IEC 62304 and ISO 13485.
• Knowledge of server- and cloud-side technologies, including Azure or AWS.
• Familiarity with microservices and serverless architectures.
• Proficiency with technologies such as Node.js, REST APIs, WCF and ASP.NET.
• Working knowledge of cloud and container technologies such as Kubernetes, Amazon ECS, Amazon EKS and Amazon S3.
• Familiarity with software development and configuration tools such as Git, Jira, Cockpit, Code Collaborator and third-party build tools.
• Demonstrated technical leadership skills with the ability to provide technical direction on complex projects.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, evaluate complex problems and develop technically sound solutions.
• Creative and innovative approach to problem-solving.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
