Whether your passion lies in systems, software, human factors, or beyond, this is a place where you can grow your career and be part of something bigger—advancing science for life.

As a Systems Engineer III on the Neuromodulation R&D team, you will help shape next-generation implantable and connected health technologies that improve patient lives. In this role, you’ll design and execute comprehensive test strategies to ensure system reliability, verify requirements, validate user needs, and drive delivery of high-quality neuromodulation solutions.

This is a hands-on engineering role that spans the full product lifecycle—from early-stage concept through commercial launch. You’ll work cross-functionally with software, firmware, hardware, mobile, and cloud teams to integrate complex systems, uncover issues, and ensure every product meets the highest standards of safety and performance.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Analyze system requirements and develop verification strategies, test objectives, and traceability documentation
  • Perform system-level testing across software, firmware, hardware, mobile, and embedded components
  • Execute formal and exploratory test cycles including regression, dry runs, and defect reproduction
  • Investigate, document, and debug defects using structured analysis and hardware/software tools
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including software, systems, hardware, field support, and quality
  • Create, execute, and maintain automated test scripts to improve coverage and reliability
  • Debug and refine test automation frameworks (Iris, Hermes, Test Automation Server) and execute controlled test jobs
  • Support full-system test suite execution and deliver detailed reporting of verification outcomes
  • Manage device setup, configuration, and planning activities to ensure test readiness
  • Contribute to risk management activities, including FMEAs, hazard analyses, and safety assessments
  • Apply project management skills to track, report, and deliver on engineering and verification milestones
  • Mentor new engineers and support onboarding into the verification environment
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including daily scrums, reviews, triage meetings, and cross-functional design sessions

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in engineering (Master’s degree may substitute 2 years)
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience working with mixed hardware/software systems
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in design, development, or testing of embedded or active implantables (deep brain stimulation (DBS) systems highly preferred)
  • Familiarity with tools such as Windchill, Jira, TFS, Cockpit, Bitbucket, and Agile/PLM environments
  • Ability to interpret and develop system requirements and specifications
  • Experience verifying mobile apps, embedded systems, and hardware interfaces; strong debugging and defect triage capabilities
  • Proficiency in programming languages including PHP and Python
  • Experience working in a hands-on engineering lab environment

Preferred qualifications:

  • Prior experience working with implantable DBS products and neuromodulation systems
  • Familiarity with DBS clinician programmers with Brainlab integration, Stimsearch algorithms, and cloud-based CP application features
  • Hands-on experience executing CAPAs and NCEPs related to DBS products
  • Experience using Iris, Hermes, and Test Automation Server to run regression and formal test suites; ability to create Iris test jobs based on configuration
  • Extensive system-level verification experience including regressions, formal test cycles, and end-to-end mixed system validation
  • Strong skills in traceability, requirements interpretation, and verification coverage against engineering and user needs
  • Proficiency in formal system development life cycles and standards governing Class II/III medical devices
  • Deep understanding of hardware-software integration, including SEIT boards, clinician programmers, and patient-facing controllers
