About the role: 
As a Customer Billing Coordinator, you will be responsible for interfacing with patients, company sales ambulatory surgery and healthcare facilities representatives, and insurance carriers to handle a variety of pre-sales and post-sales service functions in the area of customer billing.  This individual obtains patient information and maintains database of patient files.  He/she facilitates communication between insurers, clinics and patients, expediting exchange of required data and dealing with insurance billing problems.  Ultimately, this team member will exercise some independent judgment, work on assignments that are semi-routine in nature where ability to recognize deviation from accepted practice is required.

Your Responsibilities include: 

  • Analyze and interpret Explanation of Benefits (EOB) forms to ensure insurance companies have paid for charges, and to process adjustments and billing statements.
  • Timely follow up on insurance claims denials, clearinghouse rejections, exceptions or exclusions.
  • Complete appeal letters or appeal forms or appeal processes on insurance websites to attempt to be paid by insurance.
  • Timely communicate with patients regarding medical bill statements.
  • Negotiate with patients regarding payment plans and account discounts.
  • Coordinate with other team members and supervisor regarding complicated and problematic patient accounts.
  • Timely respond to inquiries from insurance companies, patients, and providers.
  • Verify claims are complete and correct prior to submission.
  • Submit corrected claims for diagnosis code and modifier changes.
  • Communicate with insurance companies about eligibility and claims denials.
  • Establish working relationship with clinics' billing staff to obtain necessary information to bill medical claims.
  • Recognize claim denials trends, and create plans to obtain insurance payments.
  • Utilize no activity report to research why insurance companies have not responded to claims and to obtain claim status.
  • Obtain authorization numbers from medical center’s or insurance companies when applicable.
  • Ability to manage a relationship with multiple insurance carriers.
  • Regularly meet with billing lead or supervisor to discuss and resolve billing obstacles.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, including special projects.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 2 years of experience with a high school diploma.
  • In all actions, demonstrates a primary commitment to patient safety and product quality by maintaining compliance to the Quality Policy and all other documented quality processes and procedures.
  • For those individuals that supervise others, the following statements are applicable:
  • Assures that appropriate resources (personnel, tools, etc.) are maintained in order to assure Quality System compliance and adherence to the BSC Quality Policy.
  • Establishes and promotes a work environment that supports the Quality Policy and Quality System.
