We are seeking a Principal Electronic Engineer on a permanent basis to join our team.
Job Purpose:
Specify design, analyze, simulate, build, test, document and release to manufacturing various electronic circuits for implantable and external medical devices. Expert in one or more areas of electrical engineering. Expertise in the area of RF design and EMC compliance and testing is preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
• Leads or participates on project teams to develop clear specifications, evaluates feasibility of concepts, and provides formal estimates for electrical/software designs.
• Coordinates, monitors, and documents project designs, estimates, and costs.
• Creates electrical/software designs utilizing the departments’ standard development tools and procedures.
• Completes project deliverables and monitors project schedules and scope changes to assure team can meet delivery requirements.
• Prepares standard reports/documentation to communicate status and results.
• Leads project teams that include Designers, Engineers and Technicians in the design, assembly, and debugging of equipment.
• Designs electrical systems and specifies electrical components.
• Completes FDA/QSR equipment requirements by assisting in the creation of specifications and qualifications.
• Influences and defines functional, departmental and divisional procedures through involvement with cross-functional engineering initiatives.
Education & Experience:
• Requires in-depth conceptual, practical and technical and/or functional knowledge of principles and theories in own job function and general understanding of related job functions
• B.S. in Electrical Engineering and 10 years of experience or M.S. in Electrical Engineering and 5 years of experience in medical device electronics design
• RF analog design experience related to antennas, wireless transmitters or receivers, battery charging circuits, oscillators, tuned circuits, filters, and matching networks
• Able to identify potential EMC issues in the design activity phase and propose design solutions
• Experience with EMC compliance and testing, including interfacing with outside test houses, identifying applicable EMC standards and writing test protocols and reports
• In-depth knowledge of current EMC standards and regulations for implantable and external medical devices, specifically ISO14708-1, IEC60601-1-2 (or EN61000), FCC CFR47, ISED RSS-GEN, etc. for applicable markets and geographies
• Experience with interfacing with EMC regulatory agencies such as FCC, ISED and EU/CB notified bodies to ensure appropriate EMC testing is performed and to support the approval or certification process
• Experience with common lab equipment such as power supplies, source meters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and network analyzers
• Advanced knowledge of Electronic Design Automation tools for schematic capture and layout such as Altium, OrCAD, Cadence
• Knowledge of Multiphysics simulation tools such as COMSOL or EM modeling simulation tools such as Ansys is preferred
• Knowledge of and experience in developing and manufacturing medical devices in conformance with Quality Systems and Regulations; specific experience with design control regulations is preferred
