The Manager ensures long‑term test capability readiness, drives innovation and standardisation across the test platform landscape, and aligns engineering priorities with business needs, regulatory expectations, and manufacturing objectives.
This role has broad impact: shaping test technology roadmaps, managing departmental resources, scaling organisational capability, and influencing cross‑functional strategy to support Boston Scientific’s growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Organisational Direction
- Define and execute the long‑term strategy for the Electrical Test Development function, including technology roadmap, skill development, platform architecture, and capacity planning.
- Set functional goals, establish performance indicators, and ensure alignment with broader Global Process Development strategies.
- Drive standardisation across test platforms, frameworks, documentation practices, and validation approaches to improve efficiency, reliability, and compliance.
- Provide thought leadership on emerging technologies and their applicability to future product pipelines.
People Leadership & Talent Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of experienced engineers, early‑career professionals, and technical contributors.
- Build a high‑performance culture focused on accountability, technical excellence, structured problem solving, and continuous improvement.
- Own team hiring plans, succession planning, skill‑gap analysis, and competency development pathways.
- Conduct performance management, career planning, coaching, and recognition to support engineer growth and retention.
Technical Governance & Test System Development
- Provide technical oversight for the design, architecture, and development of custom automated electrical test systems supporting NPD and commercial products.
- Establish technical governance processes for design reviews, software/hardware qualification, and system acceptance.
- Champion engineering best practices in documentation, safety, risk management, traceability, and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure robust validation strategies for complex test systems.
Portfolio, Resource & Budget Management
- Oversee the portfolio of test development projects, ensuring prioritisation aligns with business needs and manufacturing readiness.
- Own resource planning for the team, including headcount strategy, contractor engagement, equipment investment, and capital forecasting.
- Manage functional budgets, capital requests, and long‑term test infrastructure investments.
- Balance competing priorities across multiple high‑impact NPD and sustaining programs.
Cross‑Functional & Stakeholder Leadership
- Serve as the primary test process engineering leader interfacing with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Program Management for test‑related topics.
- Influence early product architecture to ensure designs are testable, automatable, cost‑effective, and scalable.
- Collaborate with global test development teams to share standards, align on platform strategies, and leverage reusable design assets.
- Build partnerships with external suppliers, integrators, and technology partners to support test capability expansion.
Impact, Decision‑Making & Accountability
- Make strategic decisions affecting project delivery, manufacturing readiness, quality performance, and long‑term test capability.
- Serve as final approval authority for technical decisions, documentation, and equipment release within the team’s remit.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, quality, and safety standards across all test systems developed or sustained by the group.
