The Urology division is hiring the role of Commercial Director, Urology & Pelvic Health, Asia Pacific (APAC). This leader is expected to be an energetic self-starter who is excited to take on the challenge of thinking strategically to help shape Boston Scientific’s future for Urology in a complex and ambiguous environment.
This role is responsible for driving growth across the Urology division in Asia Pacific countries through marketing, commercial leadership and business development initiatives. In addition, this person will be responsible for identifying new global growth opportunities for Urology emerging from APAC. The Urology division has multiple franchises (Endourology, Urologic Cancer, Prosthetic Urology and Pelvic Health).
The business environment in APAC is complex, across geographies and clinical therapies with unique needs at different stages of maturity. Customer needs in APAC are often different than other global markets and hence, this leader is expected to have in-depth experience and a demonstrated track record of success in APAC.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Marketing and Strategic Planning: Lead the strategic planning efforts for all Urology franchises across relevant APAC countries through mapping the market, identifying potential gaps and exploiting new opportunities in line with franchise strategies and global guidelines to drive growth.
- Business Planning (AOP): Drive Annual Operating Plans and lead execution of AOP (budgets/ resources/ activities etc.) across relevant countries in the region
- Drive activities that support achievement of divisional sales budget: Control and management of divisional marketing OPEX; demand forecasting, field backorders; Comply with legal requirements; Drive consistent marketing process; Facilitate and initiate cross franchise/department divisional communication; Coordinate and work with Regulatory/Clinical to ensure to timely product launches and reimbursement; Coordinate and work with other division marketing heads to achieve the company goals, ex. New market initiatives, new technologies, KOLs, medical conventions, GPOs, and risk management.
- Market and Portfolio Analysis: Lead execution of market analysis activities (Market research, identification of new opportunities, therapies, technology advancement competitors etc.) to generate insights and support development of marketing strategies and feed into the portfolio process
- Develop and Execute Plans for a Market-Appropriate Portfolio: In a complex and fast-changing market like Urology, it is vital to get the right products into the right geographic markets, at the right time. This may require making cases to develop products and solutions that are specific to certain markets. In order to do this, we expect this leader to proactively work with physicians, with regional and global counterparts- R&D, Marketing, Market Development, Finance, Regulatory Affairs, Health Economics & Market Access, Medical Affairs, and Operations/Supply Chain to bring such products to life for our customers.
- Marketing Operations: Initiate and lead the design and implementation of marketing programs in the region, develop networks and establish advisory boards; ensure alignment of own activities with international functions (Finance, Supply Chain, Health Economics, Marketing, Clinical, Regulatory, Quality), establish strategic vendor relationships and periodically review effectiveness of marketing operations across own franchise in the region
- Talent Development and Succession Planning: This leader will also be responsible to attract, hire, retain and develop world-class talent in Asia Pacific, not only for Asia Pacific, but for the global Urology division, and for Boston Scientific overall. A key measure of success in this role will be the leader’s ability and track record of developing future leaders for the Company.
- Product Launch Excellence: Lead and monitor the execution of product centric plans (like new product launches etc.); oversee coordination with operations team to manage the supply chain for products, review monthly forecasts, backorders & plan inventory transitions for new products, track portfolio performance and ensure accurate and timely reporting across the region for own franchise
- KOL Relationship Management: Establish and develop relationships with key stakeholders/ KOLs/ economic buyers and influencers as relevant to domain; participate in conferences/ symposiums, guide program design in order to develop advocates to communicate key company messages to the medical community; network with counterparts in BSC global to drive regional objectives
- Sales Enablement: Liaise with regional & in country sales leadership to align sales and marketing objectives; drive sales team capability needs assessment and guide programs for capability building on products and clinical messaging; align with global to identify marketing collateral and disseminate them in country to ensure achievement of franchise marketing objectives and sales support as required
- Quality: Ensure awareness and compliance with applicable standard operating procedures to meet, comply and champion all quality and regulatory commitments of Boston Scientific; As interface to Customer and Sales Organization has direct responsibility to facilitate, share documents and process to identify, notify and ensure any complaint or problem are addressed, thereby demonstrating high commitment to Quality in all interactions and behaviors; Responsible to facilitate and champion the quality requirements and the message of compliance to internal and external customers for all events and campaigns.
KEY REQUIREMENTS:
- BS/BA degree in business / sciences/ commerce, and internationally recognized MBA
- 10+ years’ experience in healthcare sales/marketing in complex environments such as Asia Pacific with full P&L responsibility and experience directly managing Sales Reps/Managers, Distributors, Product/Marketing Managers
- Experience of having lived and worked in the largest markets for Urology in APAC (China and/or Japan) is highly desirable.
- Healthcare consulting role in a top-5 consulting firm is an attractive skill set.
- Product marketing, product management, product development, market development experience for new therapies/markets in med devices is a must.
- Project management experience and particular attention to detail is a must.
- Willingness and ability to travel approximately 50% to 60% of the year is highly desirable.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are required.
- Due to business needs within the region, conversant and fluency in Japanese and/or Chinese language is a definite plus.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment and multi-task is necessary.
- Executive presence, and ability to articulate ideas and concepts well to senior/global management is required.
- Drive and ambition to be developed and grow into senior leadership roles should come across strongly.
