Associate Director, Data & AI APAC

Purpose Statement:
The Associate Director for Data and AI, serves as the strategic leader for BSC APAC’s data and AI agenda, responsible for developing, executing, and scaling the region’s data and AI strategy. This role oversees data governance, architecture, analytics, and AI capabilities to unlock business value from enterprise and external data sources. As the regional AI leader, the role drives the identification and implementation of high-impact AI use cases, ensures operationalization of AI solutions, and champions responsible AI practices. The role is pivotal in enabling digital transformation across commercial and corporate functions, while ensuring alignment with global standards, regulatory expectations, and regional business priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
Drive Data Excellence
- Lead the development and execution of BSC APAC’s data strategy to ensure enterprise data is governed, trusted, and used effectively for decision-making.
- Define and maintain a regional data strategy aligned with enterprise goals and global standards
- Oversee governance practices including data stewardship, data quality monitoring, data security and metadata management
- Collaborate with data owners and stewards to establish clear data ownership, accountability, and usage policies
- Ensure high data quality and integrity to support analytics, reporting, and digital initiatives
- Enable a culture of data literacy and responsible data use across teams
AI Strategy and Development
- Lead the strategic direction, use case identification, design, and deployment of AI solutions to deliver business impact across APAC.
- Translate business priorities into an actionable regional AI use case roadmap
- Collaborate with functional stakeholders to identify AI opportunities across commercial, operations, and support functions
- Oversee AI model design, development, validation, and deployment in partnership with data scientists and engineers
- Drive scalable AI architecture and solution frameworks to enable reuse and rapid experimentation
- Track adoption of AI initiatives and continuously refine strategy based on learnings and impact
Collaborate Across the Organization
- Act as a strategic connector between business, IT, and regional leadership to promote integration of AI and data into day-to-day operations
- Partner with Area IT and Business Units to gather needs and ensure AI initiatives are locally relevant and actionable
- Collaborate with APAC RLT and functional leaders to align regional programs with commercial strategy
- Coordinate with the Enterprise Architect, PMO, and Digital Tech & Strategy teams to embed AI within the broader digital ecosystem and enable regional digital programs in the data and AI context
- Support cross-functional initiatives by providing data and AI capabilities as enablers for broader transformation goals
- Advocate for APAC in the global AI community and leadership
Drive Continuous Improvement
- Stay at the forefront of innovation and emerging technologies to enhance the region’s data and AI maturity.
- Evaluate and implement emerging technologies such as LLMs, RAG, AutoML, Agentic AI and GenAI that can accelerate business innovation
- Monitor market trends and regulatory developments to guide AI roadmap adjustments
- Lead pilots and proof-of-concepts (PoCs) to test new capabilities before broader rollout
- Drive measurement and benchmarking to assess maturity and progress toward data/AI goals
Leadership and Advocacy
- Champion the responsible use of data and AI across APAC, influencing strategy and driving cultural adoption.
- Represent APAC in global AI governance forums, working groups, and investment boards
- Advocate for regional needs and drive visibility of APAC success stories to the global organization
- Act as an internal thought leader on responsible AI, AI ethics, and practical deployment in a regulated industry
- Foster a strong AI culture by enabling upskilling and creating engagement opportunities across teams
Ensure Governance and Security
- Oversee data and AI practices to ensure they meet legal, ethical, and organizational standards.
- Ensure compliance with global and local data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, PDPA, HIPAA)
- Implement and monitor adherence to responsible AI principles and standards
- Establish risk identification and mitigation processes related to AI model lifecycle, data privacy, and security
- Partner with Risk, Legal, and Compliance teams to ensure safe and compliant data/AI deployment
- Define thresholds and escalation mechanisms for AI governance and model performance issues
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with at least 16 and above years of experience, including regional (APAC) exposure and leadership in Data & AI
- Strong expertise in data, analytics, and AI, including data architecture and machine learning
- Solid understanding of end-to-end data ecosystems and related technologies
- Strong business acumen with the ability to translate APAC market needs into scalable data/AI solutions
- Proven track record in leading regional, cross-functional teams and developing team capabilities
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage complexity and adapt in dynamic environments
- Demonstrated ability to drive service reliability and stakeholder satisfaction across APAC
- Experience in building scalable digital solutions and technical capabilities
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage senior stakeholders and simplify complex topics
